Latent Semantic Indexing awareness: can it help?

Russell: How are you?

I hope you don't mind my asking a quick and possible dumb question.

How much of a factor does theme play in the search engines right now from your experience?

By this I mean can a site structured properly with good content "salt & peppered" with theme related keywords outperform a site with many more inbound links or is it the type of thing that with all things being equal, it gives you a slight edge?

I would assume that using the approved theme related terms in choosing where your links come from would have a distinct advantage as they are or will be weighted more heavily.

Your comments based upon your experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Regards, Scott

Hi Scott,

Understanding how you are positioned within a Theme can do much more than simply give you the “edge”.

This high level semantic knowledge gives you 5 advantages over everyone else.

1. You will know what types of “inbound links” to acquire and (more importantly) the ideal anchor text to use when the opportunity arises.

2. You will have more content synonyms than your competitor because you have compiled more combinations of words saying (selling) the same thing.

3. You will know the appropriate deep linking anchor texts to use and who to anchor them to.

4. You will be using words that are approved by the search engines as synonyms to your overall theme. Your competitors do not do this (yet). Sometimes these keywords are counterintuitive or contrary to what you may have chosen. Often times they are not overly difficult to fit into your business model.

5. Becoming a subject matter expert in your field is a powerful way to complete the educational process that leads to a sale. It also combines keyword research and market research into a single event.
