Competitive Intelligence and Consulting
Hi folks,
Sunday I take some time to answer questions in the forum. Usually several
questions cluster around a couple of topics. I have added two new topics
to the Theme Zoom bookstore in order to save everyone time.
As requested, here is Sue Bell's list of books on Web Analytics and
metrics optimization. Especially recommended is Web Analytics An Hour A
Day, by Avinash Kaushik:
One comment I would make about this topic is that there are no "hands
free" PPC metrics that remove the need for you to have a basic
understanding of the ideas contained in this book, as well as information
provided by experts that I trust- including Jerry West and David Bullock.
I know everyone is looking for the ultimate metrics tool. Aside from my
Krakken data, I still don't underestimate the power of a good spreadsheet.
I have had so many folks in the forum asking about how to get higher
paying clients, that I felt inclined to reveal two of my favorite books on
the topic.
A word about consulting.
There is not a "simple" action that occurs suddenly snapping you into a
higher consulting income bracket. Some people still have hourly rates
which is a bad idea if you are trying to (seriously) reach the tipping
point of 1 million plus per year. (yes that is possible even as a
consultant).
If there is a "simple" thing that can make the difference between 100,000
dollars per year (which I know sounds good to some of you) and 1 Million
dollars per year it would be to work on a "project only" basis, not on an
hourly or weekly basis.
Also, be sure to read Art Crowley's Profit Tool 131: "How To Avoid The
"Free" Consulting Trap That Derails Sales. <– Very important chapter. We
no longer offer the MCM course, but if you have been with Theme Zoom for
more than 2 months, you will have a copy of this Profit Tool.
Jon Keel and I will be covering several of these topics with Jon's
Proprietary System at the Theme Zoom Protege event in just a few weeks. It
is not too late to jump on board:
