Forbidden Image Banned by Theme Zoom Branding Directors

Hi folks,

A lesson in the psychology of branding:

I thought it would be fun for you to see what my trusted board of branding advisors rejected yesterday. This concept was created by artist Ray McDaniel, and was quickly rejected for further development by my team:

Do you agree?

The idea was to come up with a visual concept that provides an image of “Swallowing your market whole”. (Since this is what Theme Zoom helps you to accomplish).

Here is the negative feedback received from the Good Branding Board of Directors:

Raphael John Oldham, Theme Zoom “Brand Evolution” manager, art director and educator:

If you use it in a marketing piece, the sub-meaning that comes across to me is that you are inferring that the person reading the article is a snake…

Also, I think for this concept "swallow your market whole" you don't have to have an image that is so literal, in a way it weakens the idea…we are teaching swallow your market whole to be thorough, not to be predatory.

(I think)

I would go with something that either has humor, or some kind of technology picture that communicates the concept to express that this is a modern idea that makes you "cool."

Joey Keim, Theme Zoom Strategic Marketing Assistant:

”I don’t think we need to tell them what “swallowing a market whole” looks like.

Jay Townley, of Jaytownley.com, Theme Zoom branding consultant:

I suggest that the snake may be cool, but probably is too negative for your whole audience.  There are several other ways of graphically presenting your core theme of "swallowing a market" whole - like a whale, which tends to be a more likeable creature, and would get the point across with out some of the negatives you are rightly concerned about.

I hope this is of some help.

Glenn Livingston of The Livingston Group has a background as a psychologist and is a market research expert:

If you're asking for my intuition, I'd advise against it because I think
it's antithetical to the primary benefit you're offering.

ThemeZoom.com provides the power to swallow markets whole because
of it's thorough understanding of data cubes and latent semantic indexing,
and the data sources it pulls from.   Rather than being a "snake" and sneaking
through loopholes in the search engine algorithms, it instead works WITH
Google, Yahoo, etc. to create a comprehensive authority site, and encourages
the user to fill it with valid content.

In short … I think a snake is too "black hat" and would undermine the message.
