Nailing the First Million – Must Have Plugins

With so many plugins on the scene, where does a person start?  Here’s what I look for in a plugin:

  • Ideally you want something that is still supported.
  • Plugins should fill a needed function, period.  Don’t go plugin happy.
  • Look for positive feedback from other users and any talk of conflicts.

With that in mind, let me give you the list of things that I load as “standard”:

SEO-Automatic-wp-core-tweaks – this is the setup plugin I mentioned in my last blog post – install this plugin and do the setup BEFORE you post any articles.

Ultimate Google Analyticsadd analytics to your blog painlessly – this does more than you would achieve by simply adding the javascript to your template!  This plugin also causes google to track where people go when they leave your site and files that are downloaded (such as PDFs).  You’ll need to create a google analytics account if you don’t have one already and then add the domain for your blog.  Google will then give you the javascript you use for tracking.   Then follow the directions in this plugin to activate these features.

Automatic SEO Links - this is a must for “market domination”; set up your blog with your Keyword DNA from Krakken and the respective links to your website and let this plugin do the rest.  AWESOME!

Platinum SEO Pack – it’s a must; if you are reading this blog, I assume you understand why…

Sociable – make your blog viral;  automatically add links to up to 99 social bookmarking sites on your posts, pages and in your RSS feed.

Site Map Generator – make sure google loves you – can do a robots.txt file, too.

Privacy Policy Plugin – If you are putting adsense on your blogs, you’ll want to make sure you have a privacy policy.  You can either create that as a static page or use this plugin.

BTW, installing plugins is a SNAP – you download them, upload them to your plugin folder either via FTP or you can use the *Plugins **Add New menu option in the admin area.  Then go to the *Plugins **Installed option and you’ll see your plugins there.

This should keep you busy until the next installment – How to get your blog Ranked in 24 hours.

See you then,
