Killer Facebook Rules of Engagement for Business People

Because Theme Zoom will be providing inbound link strategies and templates during the launch of the new TZ-DWS SEO Research and Domain Project Management System- it is useful to cover the basics of social networking.

Facebook mentors Ian David Chapman has provided an excellent check list of things for the novice to remember when building a contact list on Facebook.

  1. Make sure you have studied and understood section 01-03-Facebook Rules. (This defines how you could get shut down).
  2. Do not copy and paste or your account can get shut down.
  3. Know your target market and identify the key players.
  4. Make friends with the influencers in your target market.
  5. Always send a personal message with a friend request.
  6. Be genuinely interested in people and look for areas of common interest.
  7. Stand out from the crowd and be original. Again, never cut and paste.
  8. Always leave an open ended communication that makes it easy for people to continue the relationship.
  9. Never pitch- relationships first deals second.
  10. Adopt an attitude of services- give before you receive.
  11. Focus on quality rather than quantity.
  12. Hand select your first 300 friends.
  13. Be patient, building a Facebook page is not a race. Responsiveness of your network is more important than how big it is.
  14. Being active and visible will attract the right people towards you.
  15. It’s not who you know, or even who knows you. It’s the quality of the relationships that you develop that really counts.

Theme Zoom recommends that you take this same attitude when building your keyword-driven social media network in general. The overall attitude will help you build a high quality list throughout your entire feed network, not just on Facebook.

A key understanding is that the word “Friend” is very confusing to many people when it comes to understanding Facebook and how to best leverage the power of your friends networks. By calling the Facebook nodal contact relationship a “friend” one may lose site of the fact that Facebook can be used as a relationship “cooker” and trust builder.

It is socially acceptable to0 manage relationships that require little or no commitment on the chance that you might want to use those relationships in the future. Few FB users understand how to manage their facebook contact lists and groups to take advantage of this.

Both the corporate CEO and the work-at-home-mom should take the time to understand how the Facebook networks work. Over the next few years, these types of social networks are likely to replace the average Rolodex. The beginner does not understand how Facebook can help you manage “weak tie” relationships far better than a linear Rolodex ever could.

With the correct refinements to a Facebook group, plus the ability to download  Facebook contacts onto the desktop using third party software, there is no need to break the continuity and context of any relationship. The contact back-up issue with Facebook has been a source of controversy since 2008 because Facebook clearly owns all of the data and thus far have made it clear that they really do not care if you have a back-up of your contact list. This may change in the future.

In the meantime Theme Zoom is testing Facebook back-up applications but this has been difficult because it seems that Facebook likes to put a stop to data exporting. For example, the application of choice was Friends CSV, which is no longer available. Of course articles written by tech-crunch about data “sneaking out Facebook’s back door” probably did not help keep these tools on the market. Data is the same as cash to Facebook and other social platforms.

Before engaging in using any “Facebook back-up application” research the product very carefully and read the Facebook terms of service.

Currently Theme Zoom is researching Social Safe FB Data Back Up. Until a report is released, use all of these applications at your own risk.
