Search goes Quantum as Google and Bing get Tuned into Twitter

After long negotiations Twitter has now reached agreements with both Google and Bing to give them access to their full feed of public tweets.

A beta version of Bing’s twitter search is already live with a tag cloud showing the most popular tags in the current conversations.  This app is cool!  I did a search for SEO and watched as new twitters appeared at the top of the page, with less than 1 minute lag time and the results age as you watch.   Additionally they give you the top links shared for your search query.

With all these tweets indexed and sifted, spikes in keywords and highly shared links will become prominent, providing a better “finger on the pulse” effect than we’ve been able to have to date; allowing us an finer level of detail in the ‘thousand foot view’.

Especially for particular topics current tweets will be particularly valuable.  Tweets of who won the Superbowl being an obvious example.  It will bring the immediacy of “on site coverage” to any and all events.

Personally, I’d still like to get my hands on “twitter search” volumes.   These values promise to be as different from search engine search volumes as search volume is different from paid traffic.  I would actually prefer to see these separate rather than grouped with search results as I feel they represent a different question.

At this juncture, however, it seems all these questions will be blended into a single answer and the not so fine line between ‘the past’ will be blurred with ‘now’

That said, with significant funding having been secured for Twitter, it seems their future and that of microblogs in general are here to stay.

The one thing that has not changed is the fact that everything still hinges on keywords.  And now, more than ever, you need to know the keywords being used in the conversation of your marketplace.

One of the founding principles of Theme Zoom is that we believe data, in order to be valuable, needs to be fresh.  Our keywords are “fresh squeezed” – and now that squeeze is fresher than ever ;)
