The Neuro-Team Member

David Allen of the David Allen Company has an extraordinary way of providing visual stimulus by using natural selection as a metaphor for efficiency.

Quote:

The more sensitive the nervous system of any entity or organism (and the fewer leaks in the perceptual nervous system the organism exhibits) the higher up the food chain the organism tends to be.

So you will see the more evolved an animal is, the more highly developed and sensitive is the nervous system of that organism.

More importantly, the top-level organism can respond sensitively to stimulus and change much faster than other organisms lower on the food chain.

The Lions and tigers, tigers and bears, whoever can respond faster- are the ones that stick around.

So in a way there’s no difference to talk about an entity- for example, if you are a part of my team, and something happens, and we need to instantly recalibrate for whatever that new change there is- I need to trust as your teammate that my input got to you . . . and that you are going to do something with it.

There is no time to always follow up- as CEO as well as members of any team- I have to trust you and work as a unified organism. A team needs to act as unified nervous system-who’s input signals are being received and acted upon in real time — or as close to real time as possible.

A huge part of project management and team building is trust. The system starts to break down when it is obvious that input signals from the environment are falling upon deaf eyes and ears.
