Competitive Analysis in Krakken – A Step Beyond
ByOk, I lied. I promised that my next blog post was going to be about creating a “natural search value” column in the Last Keyword Tool, and I’ll get to that, but I thought I needed to stop and show folks what is offered in Krakken for Competitive Analysis, since I just got done showing off what the Last Keyword Tool can do.
EVERYBODY who is subscribed to Krakken (that includes our legacy members) should now have access to the White Paper Generator. If you don’t, please let Ramona know in the help desk so she can hook you up.
To make this easy, I drilled into the same term that we looked at in the last blog post, ‘organic acai juice’ – here’s what we get:
At the top of the screen we get an overview of how the competition is controlling the “money” – this is that same idea that I was talking about for “natural search value”. Here we see that sambazon.com controls almost 2/3’s of the “money” – that was something I didn’t notice in TLKT. Examining the results again, I see that they are indeed in position 1 AND 2 – something much easier seen in Krakken:
Here you can clearly see they hold position 1 and 2 with the first position having a page rank 5 and the second position piggy-backing a bit on that rank. Also you can see here there are 13 inbound links from .edu sites – wow, that’s important, making this site a bit more difficult to knock out of the water than … well, 5000 inbound links is not a walk in the park, anyway.
Also we can see here that the site was created in the year 2000, another aspect to it’s solidity.
Let’s look a little further down the line; the next real surprise shows up in position number 6, vitamineshoppe.com:
You’ll see here that aside from the 30,000 pages indexed, they have 3 inbound links from .gov and 35 from .edu sites. Now these numbers are to the whole site, not just this page – but it starts to indicate this site as more of an authority than I had considered. Add to that the fact that the site was created in 1995 and you are talking about one of the oldest sites on the web. Yikes… outrankable, yes, but quite a bit more umph there than I had thought (or hoped).
Skipping down to position #10 we see that this too is here because of the weight of the site. With 316 inbound links from .edu and a 1999 site, we see that this site is established as well. It might take more than just some seo on a page to rank above these internet establishments – it would be interesting to try it and see, but if you are banking on getting above these authorities within a week or two, that might not happen.
Here you see that Krakken tells you some important aspects of “the rest of the story” – and that’s one of the advantages that you pay for, as well as having this information couched in a market analysis reference, important when you are showing clients and perspective clients where they sit in the reference to their competitors.
Ok – next post let’s get back to adding columns in TLKT – I promise ![]()
