Bing! Yahoo and Microsoft Join Forces

Hi folks,

I know I don’t have to tell most of you this as it is old news. (It was announced yesterday, which is years in the technology sector.)

Talked to Kelley about the recent Microsoft/Yahoo deal. I do not yet have Sue Bell’s opinion about this, but here is our general opinion so far.

  • Bing has a pretty nice user interface but this factor is not enough to compete with Google.
  • Bing is offering unlimited API access to developers. This is very cool and will probably help them get more traction.
  • Bing will be integrated into Yahoo but it will probably take a long time to make this happen.
  • Even when they manage to make this happen, the combined energies of both organizations will probably be able to grab only slightly more than 1/3 market share in the United States.
  • Market share for “foreign search” will be minor in comparison to the “Big G.”
